Managing Meaning Through Data Governance

Tuesday, December 6, 2022

Most of the Data Governance problems in IT are problems of meaning and semantics. Applications create their own local dialects that may differ from the enterprise vocabulary. New applications introduce new terms and measures that create new meanings through the semantic overloading of common business terms. The enterprise vocabulary changes over time but the separate dialects of applications contain synonyms and homonyms that can confuse the business.

This session gives an overview of IBM’s Data Governance Unified Process with examples from IBM’s Infosphere suite of tools, including the Information Governance Catalog (IGC) and the Information Governance Dashboard (IDG).
