 owering a growing variety of data consumers to innovate their reporting, bu
 siness intelligence, and advanced analytics. Yet expanding access to data c
 omes with some risks, especially with increased concerns about ensuring com
 pliance with a variety of business policies, industry guidelines, and laws 
 and regulations.\nConventional approaches to data governance focusing on op
 erating models and org charts are necessary but insufficient. Practical dep
 loyment of strategic data governance combines the definition of data polici
 es, and methods for operationalizing those data policies, along with descri
 ptions of the roles and responsibilities for ensuring how data policy compl
 iance aligns with business objectives.\nIn this seminar, we discuss aspects
  of a framework for identifying business objectives that have implied data 
 policies, identifying and defining those policies, and how different types 
 of data policies are managed as part of a Data Governance program. We then 
 discuss ways of distilling business policies from business objectives, iden
 tifying data dependencies, defining business-relevant data policies, method
 s of data policy compliance, and ways that tools support data policy enforc
 ement. We will explore how taxonomies are used for data asset classificatio
 n as well as clarify data consumer roles and data privileges.\nWe will have
  some collaborative exercises to decompose a regulation and identify the re
 levant components and taxonomies inherent in the regulation.\nAttendees wil
 l learn about:\n\n	Goals of data policy governance\n
 Data policy basics: What is a data policy, and translating directives into 
 data policies\n
 Developing taxonomies for data asset description, categorization, and class
 ification\n	Assessing the enterprise data landscape\n
 Capturing data asset metadata in a data catalog\n
 Roles and privileges of the data consumers\n
 Processes for bridging the gaps between the data owners, IT, and data consu
 mers\n\n
